Zone Conference October 2012

This week was zone conference. We changed it up a little bit by having Elder Olsen take one of the rotations and he taught the missionaries outside how to check all the fluids on their car. Sister Mayorga (our nurse) began our day by suggesting that any missionary with a history of back, neck, knee or ankle problems ask for a heating pad for Christmas. Our regular session began with President Baker introducing our theme, “Be a Book of Mormon Missionary.” He challenged all the missionaries to read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year. Sister Baker gave a talk on “Enduring to the End,” using the examples of Nephi and Moroni. Many missionaries asked for a copy of the parable “The Rock” so I have created a page for it over on the right.

We then broke into our rotating sessions, taught by the Zone Leaders. They discussed the diligence of Ether, the persistence of Samuel the Lamanite, and the obedience of Amulek. (This was President’s favorite session as they role played correcting a companion who is listening to inappropriate music and explaning to a sister why they can’t come in and eat with her when there is no adult male at home.) After lunch, we had some missionaries bear their testimonies of the Book of Mormon and then the Assistants taught a session on using The Book of Mormon as a finding tool. President Baker closed the session by reading and discussing 3 Nephi 3. The missionaries were able to see, even in one of the “war” chapters, important lessons about “Satan’s Weapons” and the “Lord’s Defenses.”

New Zones

On Sunday September 16 the Huntington Park West Spanish Stake was dissolved.  The wards were reassigned to the Stakes that pertained to their geographical boundaries.  The Downey Stake was also dissolved and reformed as the Huntington Park Stake with President Larry Larsen and counselors President Chavez and President Osorio.  Each Spanish ward will meet in conjunction with an English ward.  They will have separate Sacrament, Priesthood, and Relief Society Meetings in both English and Spanish.  All youth and Primary meetings will be held jointly, in English.  The South Gate Ward was divided with South Gate First Branch in the Huntington Park Stake and the South Gate Second Ward in the Inglewood Stake.  All other wards will currently remain the same.

The missionary areas are not affected but we have decided to reform some of the zones so that they will also match Stake boundaries.
